Women look better in clothes when their intimate apparel is of good quality and fits properly. Building an intimate wardrobe may seem like no easy feat, but we are happy to walk you through the gradual process.

Take an Inventory.

It all begins with taking an inventory of what you have—perhaps an everyday bra, sports bras, a strapless bra, and a sexy bra. If you haven’t worn a particular bra in a long time, think about why that is. Thinking about it will help you narrow down your next purchase. Is it uncomfortable? Is the fit not supportive? How does this bra make you feel? Also, consider how long you’ve had each piece. The average life of an everyday bra is 6 – 9 months. However, the more everyday bras you own, the more spread out wear and tear becomes and your “go-to” collection lasts longer.

Schedule a Professional Fitting.

Next, we recommend getting a professional fitting. You’ve heard the statistics about how many women are wearing the wrong bra size, and how relieved and happy they are once they’re fitted for with a supportive garment.

Below is a list of things you should keep in mind when scheduling a bra fit appointment at a la mode:

• Give yourself at least 30 minutes for the bra fitting process
• We recommend wearing a top that best represents your overall wardrobe
• We have a range of bra prices, but you should expect to spend an average of $50 to $80 per bra
• Be ready to change your mind about bra sizing

Each of our fitters has completed at least one bra fitting certification program and most have multiple certifications in specialty areas such as nursing bras, large cup sizes, post-mastectomy bras and prostheses.

Make a List.

Finally, armed with your correct bra size, new style preferences, and a few new bras, now make a mental note of the brands that suit you best—and create a checklist of your overall needs. This and shopping for your wardrobe are the most fun parts of building your intimate wardrobe!

Checklist:

•  A least a week's worth of everyday underwear
• Three everyday bras in your skin tone color
• A black bra to wear under dark tops
• A convertible bra or strapless bra
• Sexy bras and panties to spice things up!
• A nude camisole to wear under sheer tops
• Luxurious, comfortable sleepwear 
• A full slip (that can also be worn as a nightgown)
• A half slip
• Stockings and a garter belt – try it, you will like it!
